Where Art & History Meet

Tubac is one of the oldest towns in Arizona, an 1800’s Spanish Presidio turned artist colony. Tubac offers a rich history as well as an artistic experience. Just a 45-minute drive south of Tucson, the blue skies and mountainous vistas surround this laid back community offering visitors a respite and retreat from the hustle of everyday life.

Tubac Presidio Park

Tubac Presidio State Historic Park preserves the site of the oldest Spanish presidio, or fort, in Arizona. Established in 1752, the Presidio San Ignacio de Tubac was the first European settlement in what later became the state of Arizona. No visit to Tubac is complete without a stop at Arizona’s first state park located in the heart of Tubac village.

Tumacacori National Historic Park

Tumacácori sits at a cultural crossroads in the Santa Cruz River valley. Here O’odham, Yaqui, and Apache people met and mingled with European Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries, settlers, and soldiers, sometimes in conflict and sometimes in cooperation. Follow the timeworn paths and discover stories that connect us to enduring relationships, vibrant cultures, and traditions of long ago.
