Learn experimental techniques using watercolor painting on Yupo. Kat will guide you through the process of making watercolor “starts,” adding and subtracting layers and texture until the pieces are resolved. Participants will create a 10″ x 10″ or 9″ x 12″ watercolor painting on Yupo. Hours: 1 PM – 4 PM

Kat Manton-Jones is a watercolor and mixed-media artist in the Arizona Sonora Desert. Her artwork is inspired by her curiosity, adventures, and studies. Experimentation is essential in her approach. She frequently plays with new color combinations, textures, or techniques. As a result her awareness and art are continually evolving. She has completed two Artist Residencies in Guadalupe Mountains National Park (2018) and Arquetopia in Urubamba Peru (2023). As a recipient of the 2024-2025 Arts Heritage Grant Honoring Janet A. Tifft, she is creating a body of work that incorporates collage, assemblage, watercolor, and community in experimental art. Her current themes are conservation of ecosystems and habitats, dark skies, citizen science, and resistance art. She is a Saguaro Fellow in the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists, PaperWorks, Raices Taller, and Tubac Center of the Arts. Her paintings have won awards in Tucson and Tubac.
