Tubac Takes Flight

This season Tubac “Takes Flight” with a broader definition on flight, including birds, wings, planes, flying, ascension, put to flight, to force to flee or run away; to take flight, or to retreat. What does “Flight” mean to you?  In this national juried exhibit we will discover the many different interpretations as artists create works in multiple mediums.  Please join us on Friday, March 3, 2017, 5-7pm for the opening reception and meet the artists for this special exhibit.

“Birds of Arizona,” Roy Purcell

[image url=”https://tubacarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Purcell-FestivalofCranes.jpg” alignment=”center” margin_left=”0″ margin_right=”0″ margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″ width=”4656″ height=”1989″]Renown Green Vally artist, Roy Purcell has documented over 100 species of birds in Arizona.  His sketch books are overflowing with detailed drawings and paintings of birds.  This exhibit celebrates birding in Arizona during the Tubac Takes Flight season with large and small paintings by Roy Purcell.

He became well known for poignant watercolors and etchings of western history and landscapes. His interest in printmaking led him into worldwide projects culminating in the production of the (then) world’s largest intaglio prints. He then retreated from public life to focus on personal and spiritual growth and the development and mastery of various painting styles and techniques.

Flight/Vuelo Exhibit

The national juried exhibit, “Flight/Vuelo” celebrates birds and birding. The exhibit opened on Friday, March 18th, with a thoughtful presentation by juror, Linda Feltner bestowing awards from the selected 65 works of art representing artists from 14 different states. The exhibit will continue through April 24, 2016.
