Lisa Lesch Morrow: Oil Rub-Out – January 15-16, 2024
$295.00
The ‘Oil Rub-Out’ workshop (2 days) will teach the grid technique on gessoed panel boards. The grid method places a grid on an oil primed panel and duplicates the grid on the photo image. This allows the image to be used as a guide to “rub-out” the highlights and reveal the image on the panel. No prior painting experience is required.

Gessoed boards are primed with linseed oil and a mix of several oil colors (typically red iron oxide and ultramarine blue) are brushed onto the board. A 16x16 grid is etched onto the painted panel and the same grid (in proportion) is placed on a reference photo. Focusing on the gridded photo guides the student to rub-out the various values in the image. The method teaches not only values levels but allows for learning depth ratios and shapes.
No prior painting experience is required, and minimal tools/oils are needed. At the end of the class students will have successfully finished several paintings.
