Chinese Painting – Lian Zhen

Day One: Students learn how to use Chinese brushes, ink, and colors, as well as theories of Asian Art. You will learn to use the spontaneous style painting technique (not painting subjects like bamboo, chrysanthemum, orchid, nor plum blossom).
Day Two and Three: Watercolor painting. Lian teaches basic techniques such as compositions and coloring, and his unique methods including “Color Pouring and Blending” and “Paint Around (negative painting)”. He shows you how to mix colors on watercolor paper, as well as letting the pigments paint themselves. Only three primary colors will be used.
Lian Quan Zhen is a sought-after watercolor and Chinese painting artist and teacher in the US and abroad. He is one of the most popular authors of North Light Books.
He started sketching and painting in his childhood and continued as a hobby while practicing as a family physician in Canton Province, China. After immigrating to the US in 1985, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992 and a Master of Architecture Degree from MIT in 1996. He has had many shows in the US, Hong Kong, and China and developed an international following. His paintings hang in numerous institutional and private collections including the MIT Museum which has collected 14 of his paintings.

WORKSHOP REFUND POLICY – A nonrefundable 20% deposit is required with all workshop registrations. Cancellations 6 weeks in advance of the workshop will receive an 80% refund. (Registration fee minus the 20% deposit.) There will be no refunds for any student cancellations less than 6 weeks prior to a workshop – students are responsible for the full payment. TCA will provide a full refund if Tubac Center of the Arts, for any reason, cancels a workshop.
Substitutions may be made for workshops that are full and have a waitlist. If unable to attend, contact the Workshop Coordinator about a substitute from the waitlist. No substitutions may be made without the permission of the Workshop Coordinator. No refunds for no-shows or withdrawals.
