Teresa has been a volunteer with TCA for 24 years. Her current position is the office desk on Wednesdays but has also been an active member of the exhibit hanging crew for many years, pulling nails, patching holes in the walls, and hanging artwork.
Her favorite part about volunteering at the art center is getting to know and work with staff and other volunteers. “I enjoy the variety of exhibitions and other programs. Being part of a group that makes a major contribution to cultural life.”
Teresa is a semi-retired “household drudge’ and occasional poet. Her poetry is exceptional and the staff and other volunteers are often gifted with an impromptu poetry reading.
What you may not know about Teresa:
Theresa was born in Oklahoma. She attended college in Oklahoma and Ohio. She met her husband in Washington, D.C. and started married life in Sacramento, CA. After a year and a half in Sacramento, they moved with their baby daughter to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This was the start of a peripatetic life following her husband’s career assignments as an agricultural and water resources economist. They moved often over the next 30 years, alternating between various states in the US and stints in Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Iran and Peru. They enjoyed living in and getting to know other cultures and customs. Teresa occupied herself taking care of their four children, helping out at schools the kids attended and/or with helping local charities in the different countries.
