Watercolor on Gesso with Michaelin Otis

Nationally known artist, Michaelin Otis, will show you all her secrets about painting watercolor onto a handmade surface and framing the piece without glass!  You will learn how to compose a painting based on value, prepare your surface, paint in watercolor and varnish the final painting.  We will discuss color, value, drawing, composition – all while having lots of fun.  You will learn all the different techniques needed to create beautiful paintings.  The first day you will prepare a surface for the following day.  You will be given a prepared surface to paint on the first day.  This is such a fun and rewarding technique, it almost paints itself!  Supply list will be sent at registration, be prepared to have a really great two days with lots of laughs!

Michaelin Otis is an award winning, nationally known artist, workshop leader, art show juror and author.  Her very popular book, “Watercolor for the Fun of It – Painting People,” was published by North Light Books in 2002.  She is a contributing author for “Drawing and Painting People – The Essential Guide” and has illustrated eight children’s books.  The latest book, “Trainman” is being published by the Autism and Asperger Publishing Company.  She owned and operated her own gallery and teaching studio, Avalon Arts, for 18 years in White Bear Lake, MN.  Her compelling portraits have been featured in numerous publications, book covers, magazines and CD cover, as well as a show at S.P.A.S. Gallery in St. Petersburg, Russia, in June of 2005.  She has written articles for Watercolor Magazine, Artist Magazine and Watercolor Magic.  She has Been featured in many other, including most currently “Western Art Collector”.  Michaelin has won numerous awards, and has her signature membership in the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Taos National society of Watercolors.  She has been accepted into numerous national juried shows.  For many years she taught for HK Holbein art materials at trade show around the country.  She is currently being represented by Manos Gallery, Tubac, AZ.

Minimum of 6 students, Maximum of 12 students

Cost: $250/members, $300/non-members, + $5 administration fee
Time: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM Saturday & Sunday
