will be visiting Arivaca in November to enjoy the art studios of some of the finest artists in the community.  The Perino Family, Paula and David, have kindly opened up their studio, and will explain their fascinating backgrounds which have lead to their multi-media artistic productions.   Perino’s Studio website

Peggy Kane, a talented artist trained in New York City, now living within walking distance of Perino’s  home will open her studio for us.  Her work also appears in the Artists Coop of Arivaca.  Coop Website

Visit the old school house, the oldest one in Arizona, and hear a delightful presentation from local historian Mary Noon Kasualities as we consume a scrumptious luncheon catered by Sweet Peas Restaurant . Walk with Mary through the old cemetery and learn the fascinating stories of the characters who once lived in Arivaca.

After lunch, visit the studio of Arienne Ellis within a block of the Old School house to see her colorful paintings.

Our final visit will be the artist’s coop in downtown Arivaca where several of the participating artists will have their work available, and explain their methods to us.  A fun and fascinating day!

Central School Project – Arts in Bisbee

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Join the Tubac Center of the Arts in a wondrous journey to Bisbee, Arizona, to learn about the marvelous development in the arts and art programs that have been taking place in the last 30 years.

We will visit Central School  and tour the building with Pete Goldlust, the Executive Director.  A delightful young man, an artist, writer, and creative individual, he will explain the history of the building in the wonderful old theater, tell us the community goals of the project, and introduce us to a few of the artists in their studio spaces. See  where the school students of Bisbee get to spend their Fridays (a four day school week is currently in action in Bisbee)  enjoying creative endeavors  of an artistic nature – performing arts, music, sculpture, painting, etc. A photography exhibition will be showing in the halls of the school while we are there as an added enticement.

Lunch at the famous Copper Queen Hotel, take a tour to learn about the history, and the “ghosts” which occupy hidden corners of the hotel.  After lunch visit the fascinating SAMPOE Gallery of contemporary art on Main Street, showing the art of Sam Woolcott and Poe Dismuke.  Free time to visit other galleries, peruse Bisbee Main Street or “Brewery Gulch”.  Terrific mural art abounds in Bisbee and we will point out a few locations you can visit on foot.
