Bio:  Dee Bates, has always had a passion for art, beginning studies as a child and continuing to be involved in various forms throughout her years of schooling, graduating with a BA from Brown University.  Family & careers in real restate and the antique business intervened, but the last few years have allowed time to resume her painting, studies at The Drawing Studio in Tucson, and local exhibiting.
She spends equal time in an abstract world of discovery & one more representational, each contributing to the other.  In either form, she finds inspiration in the landscape forms around her, reduced to minimal imagery & a new visual field.  She strives to capture the essence of the source, whether it be movement or stillness, intensity of color, temperature or "wetness", or simply its shape & form dissected.  Her preferred medium is oil and her paintings resonate with a love of the energy &marks left by brush or tool, capturing the artist's involvement with the subject.
