Sharon Burton

Sharon Ann Burton

Sharon Burton has been a TCA volunteer since 2012-2013 and prefers working mornings at the office desk.

She likes volunteering at the desk by the main office because the duties are varied and continually changing for that particular day so there is never a dull moment. Plus, this keeps me updated on all functions and activities occurring at the TCA.

Her interests are across a broad spectrum. Most include murals, water color and acrylic painting, design, traveling, learning new things and languages, writing children’s books, exercising, skiing, golf, pickle ball, riding a motorcycle, helping others and working with children of all ages.

What you might not know about Sharon:

Since 2013 Sandy has also volunteered at the Montessori School in Tubac. There she helps four, five and six year olds with reading. As well as being an artist she has also written and illustrated five books for children. They are: Grammy Loves Me, When I Grow Up, Desert Moms, Saving Is Wise and my newest published book, Let’s Volunteer.

In April 2017 she gave a presentation at the Montessori School to the older students on how to write, illustrate and publish a children’s book. In 2018, Sharon will be doing a book signing on my newest book, Let’s Volunteer. Much of the proceeds from the books go to programs that help needy children here in the U.S and other countries. Her website is sharonburtonartforcharity.org

Sharon is a retired teacher of thirty years from the Saratoga Springs City School District in upstate New York, and an artist. She spends the winters here in Tubac with her husband, a retired attorney. They were attracted to this charming area because of its friendliness, beauty, size, weather and wonderful creative energy.

Denyse Fenalon

Denyse Fenalon, a TCA member artist living in Tucson, has been a volunteer for 8 or 9 years. She enjoys volunteering because it keeps her connected.  She works mostly in the gallery gift shop but has also volunteered in the gallery and with chck in for the exhibits. Her favorite part about volunteering at the art center is getting to know the people, the staff, other volunteers and the people that come to visit.  She meets visitors from across the country and even around the world.

Denyse transitioned from being an art instructor to corporate training and then currently, into real estate. Her art background helps her in real estate as she stages the homes that she represents.

Denyse is originally from Canada but lived in the San Francisco bay area before moving to Arizona in 2001. She holds an art teaching degree and has taught painting and printmaking to children and adults. Her move to AZ changed her own art and she now often paints plen aire landscapes instead of the studio painting she did previously.

You’ll find Denyse in the TCA gift shop, her art in many of the TCA exhibits, and participating in the annual Open Studio Tour at the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa location.

Help us celebrate the 96th birthday of dedicated TCA Volunteer, Margaret Robertson.

Our long time volunteer, Margaret Robertson turns 96 years old on November 11th, 2017. Recently her birthday was celebrated at the home of Barbara & Dick Blake in Amado as a fundraiser for TCA. This birthday celebration was about giving back, celebrating the many years of service that Margaret has made and continues to make to Tubac Center of the Arts.

If you know Margaret or simply love the idea of celebrating the contributions of our volunteers, you can also give back by making a donation to TCA (aka, Santa Cruz Valley Arts Assoc.) through the donation button below, or by mailing a check to:

About Margaret:

Margaret Myra Manchester was born in Santa Maria California in 1921. Her father, grandfather and uncles all worked in the oil fields.  As a young girl they moved often for her father’s work; from Santa Maria to Fullerton to Ventura and back, ending up in Ventura for her high school and junior college.

It was there that she met her husband George Robertson.  They married in 1942 in South Carolina where George was a civilian flight instructor and that is where their oldest son was born.  When he joined the Army Air Corp and was transferred to Helena, Arkansas, Margaret went with him after a time with her parents in California.

Through the years they moved many times until they found Tubac.  This was their 28th move and Margaret has now been in Tubac for 28 years.  Her last move was to convert her daughter, Meg’s, garage into an apartment in 2003 after the death of her husband.  So that makes 29 moves and that is just in her married life, so the number is actually much larger.

Margaret first came to TCA in the early 90’s as a greeter in the gallery and also helping Doris with the mail outs. Soon she transferred to gift shop where she has been a volunteer ever since.  She loves her time at the Center and doesn’t plan to retire from it any time soon.
